RATING ANALYSIS
Mengele was described to be a popular young man and an enthusiastic friend. Some people described him as being “a gentle and cultured man.” Many people described him as being charismatic. Mengele believed his Aryan race was the only truly creative race and had been weakened by Jewish origin. He thought that because he came from the front-line he was superior than others. Mengele saw himself as a biological revolutionary Asked to be sent to Auschwitz for the opportunities for his research. Mengele was described to be energetic and always initiating new projects, beyond the scope of his job description. When Mengele met with his son many years later, he denied any involvement with the scientific experiments that ended in the deaths of many people. The only evidence includes deceiving children to take a "trip" with him, but he ending up bring them to the gas chambers. However, this is not enough to warrant a score. Mengele experiences no guilt for any action he took at Auschwitz. He personally murdered children and twins all in the name of science and never looked back. He was known to have stated that “it would be a crime to not utilize the possibilities of Auschwitz.” Mengele received excitement over the selection process and the possibility in finding twins and was said to always have a “cheerful expression on his face. Many people described him as having “dead eyes” and the showing of no emotion, especially when killing others. He was described as being the “chief provider for the gas chamber and the crematory ovens.” Prisoners were struck by the contrast in his calm, playful manner and the horror of what he was doing. Mengele performed torturous crime against test samples such as injecting material into their spines, clamping off parts of the body, injection of unknown chemicals, and dissection. No evidence. Known to have outbursts of violence, and once shot a mother and her child when they refused to separate and proceeded to send the remainder of the transport to the gas chamber without going through the “proper” selection process. Mengele often overreacted when questioned about his medical expertise and murdered patients instantly to prove points. No evidence. No evidence. Mengele believed his scientific experiments would lead to the “curing of the German race and an improvement of genes.” No evidence. No evidence. Mengele places all blame for the selection process on his duties as an SS officer. He told his son that because he helped a few people, his actions against others were justified. He excused all his beliefs that he did the right thing because it was “scientifically derived.” Mengele had 3 marital or live-in relationships. No evidence. Mengele "escaped" from custody and managed to keep from being caught for the remainder of his life. The only crime Mengele committed was murder, however the means about which he went about this ranged greatly. |
